Texas Historical Rabbit Processing Works

Texas Qld Inc is currently in the process of restoring this historical building to its former glory.  Once the hub of the rabbit industry in Texas, the building is open by appointment only for tours.  There are photos and memorabilia and at present, it also houses a collection of local antiques and collectables from years gone by.  Admission is currently $2.

 


 

 

Texas Heritage Centre & Tobacco Museum

The Texas Heritage Centre has more than 2000 catalogued items from the local area.  It also houses an ever-growing display of tobacco memorabilia tracing the growing of the crop from its establishment to its demise in the Dumaresq Valley.  The centre is open Saturdays from 11am to 3:30pm and can be opened by arrangement at other times by contacting the above numbers.

 


 

 

Old Texas

The original township of Texas was built on the Dumaresq River flats and was moved to its present site after the devastating 1890 and 1921 floods.  A  few remains of old shops can still be seen today as you drive down Elwyn Street.

 


 

 

Texas Regional Art Gallery

The Texas Regional Art Gallery is located at the Texas Cultural Centre and is open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and Saturday mornings from 10am.  The gallery is ran entirely by volunteers and shows an array of artworks by various artists.  Admission is free.

 


 

 

Glenlyon Dam

Texas Silver Mine

“Twin Hills” Silverspur,  Stanthorpe Road, Texas

 

The original silver mine was open from 1893 to 1913 and deposits of silver/lead and silver/copper were mined.  Mining has recently restarted at the site.

 


 

 

Dumaresq River

 

Free camping is available on the banks of the beautiful Dumaresq River near the bridge for caravans and motor homes with their own toilet facilities.  Hot showers are available at the Public Toilets in High Street Texas.  The Dumaresq is also famous for its fishing spots with stocks of Yellow Belly, Murray Cod and Catfish.
